With the mostly disappointing release of The Decemberists new album “The Hazards of Love,” I found myself turning to upcoming releases to find new music to obsess over. Much to my delight, I found an old-old favorite, a new-old favorite and a new-new favorite.

I delineate down to “old-old” to prove my long time love of the half-Pakistani, half-English musician Natasha Khan, AKA Bat For Lashes. I was listening BEFORE she opened for Radiohead shows last year, BEFORE she resigned with Parlophone records, EVEN before Indie 103.1 wore out (back when it was broadcasting) “What’s a Girl To Do” off her inaugural album “Fur and Gold,” from which Ms. Khan solidified herself in my musical heart. The sophomore bonanza known as “Two Suns” releases on April 7th (April 6th for you Euros) and features the single “Daniel.” Despite that single also being my name, I find the first track “Glass” haunting enough to post here.

I say a “new-old” fav because of the recency (why isn’t that a word) of my love for Daniel Rossen. Technically, Grizzly Bear isn’t HIS band but in the strictest of sense Rossen IS the genius to which our posts return to time and again, so we’ll gloss over that for now. From the album “Veckatimest” hitting shelves May 26th, the single “Cheerleader” is floating around online a lot, but I prefer the track “Two Weeks.” To add compliment to goodness (is that the opposite of “insult to injury”?), our other new-old favorite Beach House member Victoria Legrand lends her vocals to the recording (though seldom live, unless you were a lucky south-byer).

And last but not least, I say “new-new” favorite because I’m playing the song “French Navy” by Camera Obscura a lot and have heard of the band before, but I’m not going to pretend that I know anything about them off the top of my head or have ever really listened to them before. Although, now that I’ve outed myself, the shame will drive me to do due diligence before the entire album “My Maudlin Career” becomes available April twenty-first, year of our Lord two thousand and nine.

Grizzly Bear – “Two Weeks”
Camera Obscura – “French Navy”
