Cut Copy (and Paste)

I’ve been avoiding Cut Copy. They keep popping up, but I’ve been looking the other way. I heard a snippet of one song and looked the other way. A friend posts concert photos on Facebook and I ignore them. So I take full responsibility on multiple occasions for being derelict in my duty to give them a shot. I finally caved in when I saw a bright, flashy ad online for them while AT THE SAME TIME receiving an IM from a similarly-inclined music-loving friend of mine. The cosmos can only hit me over the head so many times before I cry uncle.

Like a fine varietal of wine, you can swish Cut Copy around your ears and get tastes of VHS or BETA, The Smiths, Depeche Mode, perhaps even hints of Daft Punk, New Order, and Chromeo (how many times am I gonna bring this band up?). The latest album title “In Ghost Colours” points to a haunting quality that propels this band beyond late-night ecstacy-fueled rave fodder and into critical legitimacy. Not that late-night ecstacy-fueled raves won’t still use and abuse them.

“Lights & Music” is the one people know. My aforementioned similarly-inclined music-loving friend won’t stop listening to “Nobody Lost, Nobody Found” (which, now, neither can I).

P.S. I know this is a Hollywood-based blog, buuuut I’m from Texas and ACL passes are now available at early bird prices. Get them. The fest runners are smart for pushing it a bit later this year to allow for cooler Texas temps and less humidity to wreck peoples equipment.
