Hark, the herald hipster cries, glory to the Brooklyn guys.
…and that’s where I’ll stop with those references, at least until we’re deeper in December. On to the real point:
So, a guy walks into my birthday party (this is actually not the start of a joke). Technically, he stumbled in. Yelling about something. And I don’t even think he was drunk. He was actually a cool guy, very excited about music, which is basically me, so we got along. After a couple drinks, he hooks up his Touch to a set of speakers, and he was so excited to play this band, he couldn’t wait for my silly practical things, like actually turning off the other music playing (I think it was Interpol).
And thusly, I was introduced to lo-fi, New York rockers Sleigh Bells. No album yet, just an EP, some digital songs floating around, and already they’ve ignited a lot of talk. I like them for the most part, but mostly see a shit ton of potential. Remixes. Music Festivals. The Opening Act. We I don’t feel like this stuff is universal. It lends it self to certain and specific situations. Therefore, I offer you…
Dan Steele’s Guide to Playing Sleigh Bells:
Step 1: Look around… Do you see any of the following?
*at least three people wearing plaid
*any single male wearing shoes but no socks
*cans of Pabst Blue Ribbon or Nattie Light in multiple hands
*beard hair longer than head hair
*leggings and leather below the waist.
*a pall of affected yet lingering indifference
Step 2: If you answered yes to at least three of the above, then belligerently take over the local sound system and play the following three songs.
Sleigh Bells – “Crown On The Ground”
Sleigh Bells – “Ring Ring”
Sleigh Bells – “Infinity Guitars”
