Edward Sharpe & The Magnificent Zeros headlined at the Black Cat tonight. Fools Gold opened up. Both bands are from LA. I don’t know if you got the memo – but Los Angeles happens to be the greatest place on earth. Nope. Not Disneyland. Los Angeles, California.

Fools Gold rocked it. No question. Edward Sharpe? Transcendent. The cocktail of drugs consumed by the band members before the show must have been a list so impressive it would have made any local pharmacy run away with it’s tail behind it’s legs. The lady I was with put the over under for different substances at 4. Seemed a bit low to me. All I know was – I like their recorded stuff…and this was infinitely better than that. So if their recorded tracks leave you with some tickles down your spine…definitely check out their live act. And if it doesn’t make you dance? Move to the back.

I was supposed to see Edward Sharpe play with Little Dragon at Halloween this year…but there were all of these starving children I had to feed that day with candy – so I missed out. Luckily I was able to remedy half of that situation by catching Little Dragon in SB that next night in a small venue. And tonight I got to remedy the second half of that mistake.

Had a chance to chat up Stewart Cole from the headliner in question for a couple of minutes to ask some really killer questions like:
1. Where is the raddest place to play? (Several answers but the one I’m listing is): “The El Rey.”
2. Do you have any songs on repeat? Pause….” Hahaha, I guess that’s your answer. Nah I’ve been listening to the Grizzly Bear album a lot. Burned that out.”*
3. Where are you from? “Eagle Rock”

There were some other questions. But to be honest you should just go to a show and ask him yourself. Just tell him you work for a music website and want to ask him a few questions. It worked for me.**

Now here is the big question…what the hell did I listen to while walking to the concert? I know I know. That’s why you’re here. Next time I’ll cut down on the segue. Adam Stern’s Sunshower Rain. Someone needs to remix this please. Four on the floor beat. Get it done.

Adam Stern – “Sunshower Rain”

* Then I interupted him and we debated Department of Eagles vs Grizzly Bear. Or not. I was drunk.
** Although for me that’s true. Maybe not for you. Try it and email me.***
*** It should also be noted that I was pretty not sober and told some people after the show a funny story about meeting Batman’s girlfriend.
