Brandi Break

It was actually a chilly morning coming in today. My boss was wearing a long coat he refers to as his “New York” coat. Of course, nothing really lasts very long in LA… It’s almost 11am, and already up to 70 again. Jealous? The chilly weather puts me in a particular mood for sweater jackets, shittily brewed coffee in generic, ceramic mugs from IKEA, and Brandi Carlile. Don’t ask me why.

I talked about her a little bit before, but she deserves her own post, however short, especially since her new album, “Give Up The Ghost,” released a little over a month ago and managed to go unnoticed by me until last week. If you didn’t know any better, you’d almost think I wasn’t a very good purveyor of music… But you do know better, so you’ll believe me when I say there’s just far too much out there to make sure that nothing slips through my musical dragnet. It’s just impossible.

But Brandi should be paid special attention. So, while I have to chastise myself for missing her album… I really have to figure out a much more drastic penance for the bigger blunder on my part: missing a recent concert because I was home in Texas (doing nothing better than watching the entire third season of Arrested Development). Mea culpa, Ms. Carlile! Please forgive me.

While I castigate myself in a corner, listen to these two new tracks from the third album and an old fave from numero dos.

Brandi Carlile – “Dying Day”
Brandi Carlile – “Pride And Joy”
Brandi Carlile – “Shadow On The Wall” (from “The Story”)
